Devastation in Haiti

While Houston and other cities in Texas were hit hard by Hurricane Ike this season, the tropical island of Haiti was devastated by Hurricanes Gustav, Hanna, and Ike, as well as a tropical storm -- all within 30 days. 

Mecca AKA Grimo, Haitian rap artist and activist, along with a number of other Haitian entertainers will be gathering in New York City on Sunday September 21 for the BIGGEST relief effort ever for the people of Haiti.

Wyclef Jean traveled to Haiti to see the devastation first-hand.  He reported that even today (September 18, 2008) in the city of Gonaives, people are still living on top of their roofs; most have not eaten; dead bodies are floating in the waters while children walk barefoot in the same waters; and the entire city stinks of dead bodies. There is no FEMA to come to their rescue.  The United Nations are limited to providing food and some medical care.  However, there is no means to pump the water back into the ocean. Thousands are left with no homes in a country already torn with poverty and political strife.
